I am a man - do I have the right to call myself a Lesbian because of where I live?
Well, according to this story I should have!
Campaigners on the Greek island of Lesbos are to go to court in an attempt to stop a gay rights organisation from using the term “lesbian”.
The islanders say that if they are successful they may then start to fight the word lesbian internationally.
The issue boils down to who has the right to call themselves Lesbians.
Is it gay women, or the 100,000 people living on Greece’s third biggest island - plus another 250,000 expatriates who originate from Lesbos?
I always did say I was a lesbian in a man’s body - now it could be official!

I think we should come up with alternative names for them to use so that the residents of Lesbo Island aren’t upset.

Hmm.. “Sapphite”, maybe? That’s about the only other polite word I can think of that means a homosexual woman.
It’s mental, anyway - have they ever heard of such thing as a synonym? You can’t just ban people from using a word that’s in common parlance.
You’re right Will, the world is mad. I’ve suspected as much for some time.

I’d always suspected you were a lesbian, Will. It just took this story to give you the courage to come out of the closet. More power to you, sist/broth/er.

I think The residents of Lesbos, Lesbians, should take back the name! Men should refer to themselves as Lesbians. Straight women should refer to themselves as Lesbians.
