I know that you don’t know the difference between a Sunni and a Shia. But I would have thought that you would have had advisers who knew that Cuba was a little country.
Not just a little country - a small little country that is very poor and basically doesn’t have any way of hurting the US.
So, why wouldn’t you speak to the Cuban leadership? Hell - they have even allowed people to have PCs!
Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama continued their tussle over foreign policy Tuesday, shifting their argument to whether the U.S. should engage Cuba’s communist regime.
Take into account that John McCain’s foreign policy is the same as Bush’s!
At a Tuesday campaign event in Miami, Florida, McCain attacked Obama’s position in favor of a possible relaxation of the Cuban embargo policy and discussions with the leadership of the island nation.
“These steps would send the worst possible signal to Cuba’s dictators — there is no need to undertake fundamental reforms, they can simply wait for a unilateral change in U.S. policy. I believe we should give hope to the Cuban people, not to the Castro regime,” said the presumed Republican nominee, saying the embargo needed to remain in place until the Cuban government
OK, the Cuban people need to change their government - then they have to come into the 20th century followed by the 21st.
The embargo and sanctions have been hanging over Cuba for how long, John? Have they worked?
Ask Stephen Colbert - he will give you the answer that you want!

Will, I think he’s still afraid of hostile takeover of the US by the Communist Party.
Johnny boy still remembers the days when the Communists nearly toppled our democracy by using screenwriters to make movies that people actually had to think about! Good thing Ol’ McCarthy blacklisted them before it was too late.

McCain, you blithering idiot! I’m over fifty years old, Castro unwaveringly ran Cuba for virtually my entire lifetime, the official embargo is 16 years old and has accomplished nothing good… And you want to continue a head-in-the-sand policy to what… “Give HOPE to the Cuban people”? You continue to show that —although W Bush is likely the dumbest person who will ever hold the office during my lifetime— you are too dangerously misguided to be the President of the United States.

Well, McCain is pandering to the Cuban folks in south Florida. There are a lot of votes there. Come to think of it, McCain spends a lot of time pandering these days, changing with the currents like a jellyfish.

Watching the raise of Obama has been one of the most frightening events of my adult life. This must be what it was like to watch the raise of Hitler in post World War I Germany. A naive politician with a serious chip on his shoulder raising to power while feeding the blind grasping masses with empty promises. America wake-up! Obama is Malcom X in sheeps clothing - he has a hidden agenda just like Hitler that occasionally reveals itself. In this case Obama hates America and everything it stands for because he suffers from the syndrome of a bitter black politician with a big chip on his shoulder. The blind hopeless masses keep looking away from that in hopes for some pie in the sky unrealistic “change.” Just like the change Hitler - Obama’s agenda for change for America will only fully reveal itself if he takes control of the country. Everything Obama has proposed including his approach to interactions with Cuba and Iran are tainted by his dislike for America. In the end it only severely weaken America.

Oh my. Comparing Obama to Hitler?
Corporate America wants to be able to get into Cuba and has been lobbying the government for some time. I think it’s just a matter of time. I mean, there is money involved here…..
It will be interesting to see who wins this one.

McCain claims such foreign policy experience (perhaps rightfully so), and yet he still comes up with crap policies like the continuation of a clearly ineffective embargo. Maybe he believes that if he ignores it, it’ll go away. Cuba is taking steps in the right direction… talking to its leaders sends the right message.
Dane: you’re Obama / Hitler comparison was quite amusing. Tell me, what drug did you take to stay asleep for 8 years straight?

LOL At what point does an educated and intelligent black senator become Hitler? Someone help me out here… Reading many of these comments from anti-Obama folks that CONTINUOUSLY bring up the race issue just continue to reinforce to me that race is, and will for generations to come, remain an issue for American citizines. For whatever reason, there seem to be a whole lot of white voters that seem threatened by the idea that there is a strong black candidate that is motivating minority turnout in droves. For these same anti-Obama voters, it appears that the idea of a black president is truly a big issue. So the question I pose is this- were it some other black senator, someone other than Obama, who was college educated and willing to think on his own rather than continue ineffective policies… would that black candidate receive the same treatment as Obama? Would he also be called “elitist”? Would his patriotism also be questioned?

Race becomes an issue when it is indeed an issue for the politician at hand and has shaped the thinking of that politician. And yes indeed it is a very big issue for Obama. Anyone who believes that Obama does not have a sever chip on his shoulder because of his race is very naive. The underlying negative attitudes he has developed towards America as a result of this have repeatedly revealed themselves. If one reads Obama’s writings or listens to his political message or the messages of the people he chooses to surround him (his 20 year preacher/mentor, advisers, his spiteful/races wife..) it is this: that America is essentially bad most of the time rather than America is basically good and on occasion through out history committed some bad. This is the reason my naive/pie in the sky hoping friends is the reason that Obama is bad for America. If a politician has an underlying loathing towards the country he will not made good decisions for the country. If Coleman Powell was the black politician running for president I don’t believe you would see this reaction and I would be his number one supporter because he does not seem to carry this baggage deeply embedded in his thinking the way that Obama does. And for the record I have been a life long Democrate; however, if Obama is the nominee I will quite actively campaign for McCain.

Thou doth protest too loud, Dane. Your cynicism and anger shows that you, in fact, are the one with the chip, not Obama.
Chris // May 22, 2008 at 8:58 pm
^^ Dane, the “I’ll just go for McCain if Obama gets the nomination” bit has really gotten old. Perhaps you (a “long time Democrate…” whatever a “democrate” is) have some underlying Republicanism, causing you to make such horrible judgments.
Blind acceptance of all things American is what’s gotten us into the mess we’re in now; personally, I think it’s good that Obama (quite unlike Adolf Hitler, by the way) has the ability to listen to an opposing viewpoint.
You show such loathing toward Obama, but you support Colin Powell? My God man, you really should do some fact checking, and not let rhetoric control your decision-making process.

A challenge to all of you pseudo-intellects out there: have any of you bothered to read and interpret the writings of your equally naive hoping candidate? An honest answer is required here. More likely formed opinions based on the pop-show media coverage.
Chris // May 24, 2008 at 12:28 am
The burden of proof lies not with us, Dane. It is you who has spouted such “pop show media coverage” based opinions, such that you’ve proven your own to be the only “pseudo-intellect” in question.
Let’s try this: what specific problems do you have with Senator Obama? Here’s a hint: a comparison with Hitler is not a valid response. Once you’re naïveté is expunged from the conversation, perhaps others will be willing to converse with you on a somewhat higher intelligence level.

Oh! You mean like The Audacity of Hope? Of course, last year- twice.
