Personally I only thought that silly-season hit us once a year, but then I forgot about the American nomination races. And, to add to that, I forgot about how ‘patriotic’ you had to show you were/are.

But that is only within the walls that surround the USA - anywhere else no one cares, and if they do, they don’t wear a lapel pin because they fear a jihadist is around the next corner ready to behead them - that is a tourist from the USA.

But what is all this about? As asked on CNN:

Since it is clear that our nation is paralyzed and so not able to close our borders, feed the homeless, develop businesses in the inner cities and save people from having their homes taken by foreclosure due to ruthless mortgage companies, all because some folks don’t wear a flag lapel pin, we need to lead a national movement to demand that Congress and the states make requiring officeholders to wear a flag lapel pin the 28th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Now I watch CNN and I know from watching Roland Martin he is taking the proverbial piss!

What does it matter if you do or you don’t? Are some of the American voters so paranoid that they need to see that officialdom is official with some sort of insignia? Look back on history and see where that kind of gaff can lead you.

Bush summed it up at one point - “If you ain’t with us, you’re against us!” What tosh! But that sums Bush and his administration up more than anything he has ever done - but it does make a mark with the xenophobes within the US.

Those who will criticize me will say, “Well, Roland, if it’s no big deal, then why not wear one?” And the reply is the same: “If it’s no big deal, then why do you make it a big deal?”
