If you do keep it simple when you think about these things you know where the problem lies - with the telecommunications companies in Canada. Basically put - there is no competition so they can do as they wish, and that is something they do do very well.

Toronto is fine - it has just about everything that any company could give, but Canada isn’t just Toronto, though they would think that it is.

In the UK they are bursting at the seams with 25Mb Broadband (and that is getting faster with 99% of the country covered) - so many here in Canada are still on 56k dial up and being charged the same as that 25Mb, why?

Open the airwaves and phone lines to real competition!

I absolutely LOVE history.

History is something we can look back on and try, at least, to learn something. But, as we have seen so many times, we don’t. I have no idea why - must be that human thing in us - and why we need an alien invasion of Earth - no, I’m serious!

Only then would we as a species come together as one and fight off the highly advanced aliens.

It seems that once again - through the oil bonanza - the Cold war is making a comeback.

It will be 25 years of he said/she said and a massive build-up of troops and arms with the civilian population stuck in the middle with you.

It seems the Taser debate is going to open up once again. Why - well those glorious guys at the RCMP have used one again - this time on an person who was in his hospital bed and was 82 years old - and has had heart surgery.

Kamloops RCMP said Thursday that officers had no other option but to deploy the conducted energy weapon when Lasser refused to drop his knife.

“Whether the person is 80 or 20, we are dealing with a person who had a deadly weapon in their hand,” Cpl. Scott Wilson told CBC News.

“We could not deploy our … pepper spray, because we could potentially contaminate the entire hospital.”

Not only was it a disgrace that Stephen Colbert wasn’t allowed to run for president - he would have won, you know. The Huff gets best Political blog!? What about me!?

The car goes from 0 to 60 mph in just under four seconds and tops out at 125 mph. It goes 225 miles on one charge and can be fully recharged in 3½ hours, which Tesla officials say should allow most people to drive it to work and back and recharge it at night like a cell phone.

OK - there is two sides to every argument but this one is getting very old!

The Earth’s temperature may stay roughly the same for a decade, as natural climate cycles enter a cooling phase, scientists have predicted.

A new computer model developed by German researchers, reported in the journal Nature, suggests the cooling will counter greenhouse warming.

In this study - the Earth is going to stay roughly the same as it has for a long while and then the heat is going to be on after 2020? I’m not convinced! If a computer can generate that kind of data “Modelling of climatic events in the oceans is difficult, simply because there is relatively little data on some of the key processes”, it can or it can’t or we just don’t have enough scientific records to prove either way?

What my question is - who is making the big bucks out of all this?

The world wide web is “still in its infancy”, the web’s inventor Sir Tim Berners-Lee has told BBC News.

He was speaking ahead of the 15th anniversary of the day the web’s code was put into the public domain by Cern, the lab where the web was developed.

The future web will put “all the data in the world” at the fingertips of every user, Sir Tim said.

“The web has been a tremendous tool for people to do a lot of good even though you can find bad stuff out there.”

Making the web free to use had a vital role in spreading its use worldwide.

There is no doubt that video is big on the net. But is it getting too big?

Ask AT&T and it will answer - yes.

Speaking in London in late April, Jim Cicconi, AT&T’s vice president of legal affairs, said the burgeoning amount of video would consume all the net’s bandwidth in two years.

At the moment, said Mr Cicconi, video makes up 30% of net traffic now and in two years will hit 80%. Add in the move to high definition video which is seven to 10 times more bandwidth hungry, he said, and you get a recipe for failure.

Mr Cicconi is not alone in making startling predictions about an imminent rise in the amount of data whizzing across the internet.

Well get with the program and use the money we pay you to get better servers!

If the ‘net goes down - the world will come to an END!

A long time ago I was having a conversation with my dad. This conversation was about how life was in the British army during world war II. He did say it was hard. Not just the fighting - that was obvious - but it was hard living. You took rest when you could and you fought along side those who were with you.

You shaved in cold water, ate cold baked beans - and I won’t say what they had to do when the bathroom was needed. Dad used to joke quite a bit about what it was like fighting along side the Americans - some of the stories would literally make me scream with laughter. But one thing dad always said was that the American soldier was looked after. They had the best - even Turkey was flown in for thanksgiving and Christmas.

Some times, more often than not, in fact - they would share with their fellow warriors. (more…)
